Freediving masks are designed to have as small an internal volume as possible to reduce the need equalise the space with precious air from your lungs as you descend. A freediving descent is generally very fast so you don't have the luxury of time to waste equalising a large volume mask. Some modern freediving masks have such a low volume that you almost don't have to think about equalisation.
