Shearwater Perdix 3 Dive Computer
The Shearwater Perdix 3 is a full-featured technical dive computer built for divers who refuse to compromise. Designed to handle everything from your first open-water dive right through to complex trimix and closed-circuit rebreather (CCR) dives, the Perdix 3 is as capable as scuba dive computers get. At its heart sits an ultra-bright 2.4" AMOLED display with a crisp 450×600 resolution — a 19% larger screen and four times the resolution of the Perdix 2's LCD — housed inside an armoured casing with a precision-machined titanium bezel. Whether you're wreck diving in poor visibility or managing decompression stops on a deep technical dive, this computer keeps your critical information clear, accessible, and impossible to miss. Air integration supports up to four simultaneous Shearwater wireless transmitters, and a user-replaceable AA battery means you're never stranded.
Features:
- Ultra-Bright 2.4" AMOLED Display — 450×600 resolution and full colour, readable in bright shallows and dark depths alike. Sunlight visibility is dramatically better than conventional LCD dive computers.
- Armoured Titanium Construction — Precision-machined titanium bezel and titanium piezo-electric touch buttons deliver a rugged, long-lasting build that takes the knocks of serious diving.
- Full Technical Diving Support — Bühlmann GF algorithm with full decompression planning, trimix support, multi-gas OC Tec mode, and CCR fixed PPO₂ mode. This is a true technical dive computer.
- Air Integration — Up to Four Transmitters — Simultaneously monitors tank pressure from up to four Shearwater wireless transmitters. Start simple, expand as your diving does.
- User-Replaceable AA Battery — No proprietary charging cradle, no waiting. Swap in any AA battery at the surface, in a remote dive location, or between dives on a liveaboard. Standard non-rechargeable lithium gives up to 60 hours.
- Freediving Mode — Configurable sampling rates, customisable vibration alerts (e.g. every 30 seconds and every 10 metres), and dedicated freediving alarms — all optimised for breath-hold diving without looking at the screen.
- Three Custom Display Layouts — Standard, Big, and Tec layout options across all dive modes, plus a flexible home screen and an oversized font option for instant at-a-glance data.
- High-Speed Bluetooth — Fast, secure, always-on-once-paired Bluetooth for 6× faster firmware updates and dive log downloads to the Shearwater Cloud app.
- Three Independent Settings Profiles — Save three completely different configurations and switch between them instantly — handy if you switch regularly between recreational, technical, and freediving.
- 3-Axis Tilt-Compensated Digital Compass — Accurate navigation regardless of wrist angle, shown directly on the dive screen.
- Strong Vibration Alerts — Shearwater's most powerful vibration motor, ideal for low-visibility conditions or freediving where you'd rather feel an alert than check the screen.
- GPS Transmitter Support — Compatible with GPS transmitters for surface position logging.
- Integrated NDL and Deco Planners — Plan dives directly on the computer before you get in the water.
- Detailed Dive Logs — Approximately 1,000 hours of dive log storage onboard.
- Security Features — Encrypted firmware and optional PIN codes protect against unauthorised log viewing or Bluetooth pairing.
- Existing Perdix Accessories Compatible — Current Perdix straps, protective cases, and screen protectors all fit the Perdix 3.
Display & Usability
The headline upgrade on the Perdix 3 is the display — and it's a big one. The 2.4" AMOLED screen delivers rich, vivid colour with true blacks, which means the contrast underwater is exceptional. At 450×600 resolution, everything is sharp. Numbers are large. Deco ceilings, gas pressures, and depth readings are all immediately readable even when you're task-loaded on a complex dive.
The interface has been redesigned so the menus now show the previous and next menu titles, meaning you always know where you are in the navigation. The new layout options — Standard, Big, and Tec — give you control over how your data is presented. The Big option is particularly popular among divers with any vision challenges or simply those who don't want to squint mid-dive.
The aluminosilicate toughened glass window protects the screen from knocks and scratches, and a screen protector is included in the box.
Diving Modes
The Perdix 3 covers the full spectrum of dive types in a single computer:
- Air — Standard single-gas diving on air.
- Nitrox — Single nitrox gas diving with configurable oxygen percentage.
- 3-Gas Nitrox — Multiple nitrox gases with switchable bottom and deco mixes.
- OC Tec — Full open-circuit technical mode: multi-gas, trimix support, and full decompression management using the Bühlmann GF algorithm.
- CC/BO (Closed Circuit / Bail-Out) — For CCR divers using fixed PPO₂ mode, with open-circuit bail-out gas management.
- Gauge — Bottom timer with stopwatch and dive logging for divers using their own tables or deco software.
- Freediving — Dedicated freediving mode with configurable alarms and sampling rates. Note: switching to or from Freedive Mode resets decompression tissue saturation.
- Avelo — Compatible with Avelo diving systems (unlock code required).
Air Integration
The Perdix 3 supports wireless air integration with Shearwater transmitters — up to four simultaneously. That's your primary and deco gases all covered. Tank pressure, remaining gas time (RGT), and low gas warnings all display directly on the dive screen.
If you're starting out and just need to monitor a single tank, one transmitter is all you need. As your diving progresses into technical configurations with stage cylinders and deco gases, you can add transmitters without needing to upgrade the computer itself. It's a genuinely scalable system.
The Perdix 3 also supports GPS transmitter integration for surface positioning data alongside your dive log.
Battery & Charging
One of the Perdix 3's biggest practical advantages is the user-replaceable AA battery. No charging cables, no waiting — if the battery dies, you replace it in seconds. It ships with an Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA, which gives the longest runtime at approximately 60 hours. Alkaline batteries will get you around 40 hours in a pinch.
For divers on liveaboards, in remote locations, or just anyone who's found themselves with a flat computer the night before a dive, this matters. A lot.
Note: vibration functions require either a 1.5V non-rechargeable lithium or a 3.7V lithium rechargeable battery.
App Connectivity
The Perdix 3 uses high-speed Bluetooth to sync with the Shearwater Cloud app (iOS and Android). Dive logs transfer six times faster than previous generations. The app lets you review your dives, update firmware, and customise computer settings. Bluetooth is fast, secure, and always-on once paired — no button sequence to enable it before each sync.
Who Is the Shearwater Perdix 3 For?
The Perdix 3 is designed for divers who are serious about what they do, whether that's recreational diving with aspirations to go further, or seasoned technical divers who need a reliable, readable, fully-featured computer they can trust on every dive.
Ideal for:
- Advanced recreational divers stepping into technical diving
- Technical divers using trimix or multiple gas mixes
- CCR divers needing fixed PPO₂ mode
- Freedivers wanting a dedicated freediving computer that also handles scuba
- Liveaboard and expedition divers who need long battery life in remote locations
- Any diver who values a clear, large display over a wristwatch-sized screen
- Divers who want to grow their setup — adding air integration transmitters over time
Possibly not the best fit if:
- You want a wrist-watch dive computer for everyday wear — check the Shearwater Teric instead
- You're a total beginner on a tight budget — the Perdix 3 is an investment in capability you may not need yet

FAQs
Is the Shearwater Perdix 3 suitable for beginner divers?
It can be, but it's built with experienced divers in mind. The refined interface is straightforward enough that a newly qualified diver could learn it, but the Perdix 3's real strengths — technical modes, trimix, CCR, four-transmitter air integration — are capabilities most beginners won't need yet. If you're just starting out, a recreational dive computer will serve you better initially. If you're planning to progress into technical diving, buying the Perdix 3 now makes total sense.
Does the Perdix 3 support air integration?
Yes. The Perdix 3 supports wireless air integration with up to four Shearwater transmitters simultaneously. You can start with a single transmitter for your primary cylinder and add more as your diving configuration grows. Transmitters are sold separately — browse Shearwater transmitters here.
Can I use the Perdix 3 for freediving?
Yes. The Perdix 3 has a dedicated Freediving Mode with configurable sampling rates and customisable vibration alerts — for example, a distinct vibration every 30 seconds and a different pattern every 10 metres, so you can receive critical information without looking at the screen. It also features Shearwater's most powerful vibration motor, making it well-suited for freediving. Note: switching to or from Freedive Mode resets decompression tissue tracking.
Is the battery user-replaceable?
Yes — this is one of the Perdix 3's standout features. It uses a standard AA battery that you replace yourself without tools. It ships with an Energizer Ultimate Lithium AA (recommended), which gives up to 60 hours of dive time. If that runs low on a liveaboard, any AA battery from a local shop will work in a pinch. Vibration functions require either a 1.5V lithium or a 3.7V rechargeable lithium cell.
Does it connect to a smartphone app?
Yes. The Perdix 3 connects via high-speed Bluetooth to the Shearwater Cloud app (iOS and Android). Dive logs sync six times faster than older generations. You can also update firmware and configure settings through the app. Once paired, Bluetooth stays connected without needing to re-enable it each time.
Does the Perdix 3 support trimix?
Yes. OC Tec mode provides full multi-gas trimix support with Bühlmann GF decompression management. This makes the Perdix 3 a genuine technical dive computer, not just a recreational computer with a few extra modes bolted on.
Will my existing Perdix accessories fit the Perdix 3?
Yes. The Perdix 3 has the same physical dimensions as the Perdix 2, so existing Perdix straps, protective cases, and screen protectors are all compatible.
How does the Perdix 3 compare to the Perdix 2?
The Perdix 3 retains the same form factor as the Perdix 2 but offers a screen that is 19% larger and has four times the resolution, thanks to the upgrade from an LCD to a full-colour AMOLED display. It also adds faster Bluetooth, enhanced security features (encrypted firmware, optional PIN protection), improved menu navigation, and the ability to save three independent settings profiles. For anyone currently using a Perdix 2, the display alone makes it a compelling upgrade.
What dive modes does the Perdix 3 support?
Air, Nitrox, 3-Gas Nitrox, OC Tec (trimix / multi-gas), CC/BO (closed circuit rebreather with bail-out), Gauge, Freediving, and Avelo (unlock code required).
Does it have a digital compass?
Yes — a 3-axis, tilt-compensated digital compass is built in and displays directly on the dive screen.
