The Apeks RK3 is a traditional, all-rubber fin that's been the standard for coast guard, special ops, military and public safety divers for decades — but don't let the résumé put you off, because that same simplicity and durability make it a genuinely great option for everyday recreational and cold water diving too. There's nothing complicated about it: a tough, dependable blade that just gets on with the job dive after dive.

The blade material is built to hold up in the harshest environments, temperatures and general abuse, so it's the kind of fin you can throw in a boat, drag over rocks and forget to baby without worrying about it. The short, wide blade gives you strong forward thrust while staying easy to manoeuvre, and the vented design reduces resistance on the upstroke while enhancing thrust on the downstroke — meaning less effort for more push, whether you're finning against a current or just want an easier surface swim back to the boat.

The RK3 comes standard with high-quality stainless steel spring straps, so you get easy, one-motion donning and doffing straight out of the box — no fiddling with rubber straps, even with cold hands or thick gloves. It's available in four sizes: Small, Medium, Large and Super. Rather than a shoe size range, Apeks sizes by these categories because fin sizing really comes down to how much your footwear takes up in the pocket, not your shoe size on its own. A size 9 in a thin wetsuit bootie and a size 9 in a thick drysuit boot fill very different amounts of space, so think about what you'll actually be wearing when you dive and size around that.
