Cressi - A Brief History

In 1938, the Cressi brothers Egidio and Nanni started to handcraft the first masks and spearfishing guns. This was the start of a long-standing journey into the world of scuba diving gear. Five years later, in 1943, the first Cressi mask, The Sirena, was handcrafted. It remained in the catalogue, with various updates, for more than 30 years.

In the early 1950s, the Pinocchio Mask was created. This invention made equalization possible and is still included in the catalogue. It is one of the most famous and most-sold masks in history.

In 1965, Cressi opened one of the first workshops to produce optical prescription masks. Thanks to Cressi, even people with visual defects could now get full enjoyment of the underwater universe.

In 1983, Jacques Mayol challenged the 100m barrier and reached a depth of 105 meters. The record was obtained in the waters of the island of Elba, and Cressi played a part in this historic feat.

In 1999, Umberto Pelizziari set a world record in a freediving competition, reaching 150 meters using Cressi gear. This was a testament to the human spirit of achievement and the quality and innovation that Cressi brings to the industry.

In 2000, Cressi released the Big Eyes, the first mask in the world with raked lenses in an upside-down teardrop shape. This innovative form gives the diver a complete view of all the equipment worn.

In 2011, Cressi launched its award-winning dive computer, the Cressi Leonardo. This device has revolutionized diving, allowing for more accurate and safe dives.

And in 2021, Cressi continues to innovate with Hydrosports. This new line is the result of Cressi’s experience, consisting of tradition, innovation, and quality, since 1946.

With over 80 years of experience in the dive gear industry, Cressi continues to innovate and uphold its reputation for quality and reliability. Discover the best of Cressi's Dive Equipment Collection at Mike's Dive Store today!
