This is my third G2,...
Scubapro G2 Wrist Dive Computer, Computer Only
This is my third G2, a replacement for one of the two I keep (one on my arm and a spare ashore). I bought a G2 about six months after I started diving. The displays on the computers recommended for newbies were just dreadful—dark grey characters on light grey backgrounds—and multi-function buttons that I found difficult to remember the purposes of. In contrast the G2 had a high contrast display and buttons with labels under them—on the screen—so I always knew which button would do what. The ‘air integration’ has always worked and I find it very useful to have all of the information I want in one place, on my arm. It’s easy to link a pressure transmitter (on your regulators) to a computer. Both of my G2s are linked to the same transmitter. You can use the watch-style strap, which has plenty of length, but after a year or so I changed to using bungee cords. The G2 is designed to make this easy. How do In feel about having had to replace one of my G2s, which failed on a dive (it turned out that seawater had got in and destroyed the main board). Well, firstly, it was second hand and I’d had about 70 salt water dives out of it. Secondly, one of the buttons had become ‘sticky’, probably indicating a failing O-ring, but I’d carried on diving with it when I should have sent it in for service. Thirdly, I so like the G2 and am familiar with its use that I didn’t want to change to another model or brand. Since I started using G2s, other brands have introduced computers with similar, large, high-contrast displays, but for now I’m staying with what I know and like.
