If you’ve been thinking about switching from a Shearwater dive computer to a Garmin Descent (X30, X50i or Mk3i), one of the biggest questions has always been:
“Will I lose my dive history?”
Great news: You won’t.
Garmin now allows you to import your Shearwater logbook directly into Garmin Connect, meaning your entire dive history can stay with you — even if you switch ecosystems.
This is a huge win for divers wanting to move to the Garmin platform while keeping years of logged dives intact.

What Data Gets Imported?
When you import your Shearwater dive log into Garmin Connect, the following information transfers successfully:
✔ Included in the import
- Time and date of the dive
- The device that recorded it
- Total dive time
- Max depth
- Average depth
- Temperature (average, min, max)
- Surface interval before the dive
- Bottom time
- Conservatism setting
- Starting & ending tank pressure
These will then appear in your Garmin Dive™ app as part of your unified logbook.
Note that only the dive depth and temperature will show as charts.
✘ Not included
Some Shearwater-specific data won’t come across:
- Deco ceiling / deco stops
- Gas consumption
- Notes or tags added inside Shearwater Cloud
Still — the majority of the important metrics do transfer.

How to Import Your Shearwater Dives Into Garmin Connect
The new import tool is straightforward. Here’s the step-by-step process:
1. Export your Shearwater logbook
Use Shearwater Cloud to export your dives.
Make sure the file format is .XML — this is required for Garmin.
2. Log in to your Garmin Connect account (Browser only)
Go to Garmin Connect in your web browser and sign in.
3. Upload your Shearwater files
- Look for the cloud icon with an upward arrow in the top right corner of the page.
- Select Import Data.
- Browse your files and select the Shearwater exported .XML logs.
- Click Import Data.
4. Done!
Your Shearwater dive will appear as the most recent dive in your Garmin log.
If you want to edit a dive afterwards, you can do that inside the Garmin Dive app - Editing and Deleting Dives.

Why This Is Big News for Divers
This import tool removes the last real barrier for many divers who were tempted by Garmin’s all-in-one ecosystem but didn’t want to lose their history.
Now you can:
- Switch from Shearwater to Garmin seamlessly
- Keep your entire lifetime of dives together
- Use Garmin’s tracking, smartwatch features, GPS, and daily metrics
- Consolidate logs from multiple devices into one system
