Mares Unveils the Future of Regulator Technology at DEMA 2025: Introducing Airmatic – Natural Breathing 2.0

Available at Mike's Dive Store from 12 December 2025

At this year’s DEMA Show, Mares created significant excitement within the diving community. Retailers and industry professionals were given an exclusive first look at what may be the most important leap in regulator engineering in a century: Airmatic Technology. This completely new approach to underwater breathing is set to reshape expectations for premium regulator performance.

Although the full product reveal will not take place until 12 December, Mares invited a select audience to experience the technology in person, and the reaction was overwhelmingly positive.

Airmatic: A Once in a Century Innovation

For decades, second stage regulators have relied on mechanical springs to control airflow. Airmatic changes that concept entirely.

Instead of springs, Mares has introduced a pneumatic valve powered by intermediate pressure. This removes mechanical resistance, reduces the number of moving parts, and creates what Mares describes as Natural Breathing 2.0. Early testers who tried it at DEMA described the sensation as breathing as if the air was simply there.

Dr. Sergio Angelini, Mares Chief Technology Officer and inventor of Airmatic, explains the significance:

“Airmatic represents a quantum leap in regulator technology, a once in a hundred years invention that changes everything. Perceivably higher breathing comfort combined with utter simplicity, reliability and ease of maintenance.”

This innovation is not just an upgrade, but the result of years of engineering and refinement.

Simplicity and Performance Combined

Airmatic is also unique in its simplicity. The internal structure has been reduced to only three essential components: a seat, a rubber sealing pad, and a single O ring. No springs. No complex mechanical assemblies. No parts that are prone to wear.

With fewer components, there are fewer potential failure points and more consistent long term performance. The upstream pneumatic design delivers stable airflow at any depth or in any conditions, from warm coral reefs to deep cold wrecks.

Airmatic is also supported by Mares well known regulator technologies, including:

  • VAD, Vortex Assisted Design for smooth and unrestricted airflow
  • All metal second stage construction for enhanced cold water performance
  • High airflow engineering designed to deliver outstanding breathing comfort even in demanding environments

This is a technology created for divers who expect the highest levels of performance, reliability, and comfort.

Proven Through Thousands of Dives

Airmatic has been tested for more than two years across thousands of dives in a wide range of environments. Reports from divers have consistently praised the smooth breathing, stable operation, and low maintenance needs.

Servicing has been simplified as well. At the recommended interval of two years or 200 dives, a Mares technician only needs to replace the sealing pad and O ring. No tuning, no balancing, and no spring adjustments are required.

This system is designed to redefine both the diving experience and the ownership experience.

Countdown to 12 December

The complete regulator system that showcases Airmatic Technology will be officially revealed on 12 December, and we are excited to introduce it to the diving community.

From that date, divers will be able to explore the full system and discover Natural Breathing 2.0 for themselves at Mike’s Dive Store.

This marks the beginning of a new chapter in scuba innovation, one where underwater breathing becomes more natural, intuitive, and effortless than ever before.

Be the First to Know

Stay tuned for the official reveal on 12 December. Until then:

Airmatic is more than a new technology.
It is the start of a new era in diving.
