After 40 years of success in the dive charter industry the current owner of Colona II has now retired which means there is a rare opportunity to purchase this well-known vessel.

Colona II pioneered diving in the Red Sea in the late seventies and has run Red Sea diving & sailing expeditions for 20 years. After moving to Thailand Colona II pioneered Mayamar (Burma) and the waters of Thailand for the last 20 years.

  • COLONA II is 57 foot long, gross tonnage 26 ton
  • Builder: Perry Marine, Rochester, Kent . Launched in 1974
  • Ketch rigged Main, Mizzen, Roller furling genoa. Chute for light wind
  • She is made of 6 mm corteen steel and the superstructure is made of 4 mm corteen steel
  • Central cockpit. Spacious aft deck with ample of space of diving or other activities.
  • Spacious saloon with under storage seating and table. AC.
  • 2000 litre fresh water and 1500 litre fuel capacity.
  • In 2015 solar panels where installed to charge the 24v and the 12v battery bank.
  • There is two separate inverters giving 220 volt for charging phones, computers etc 24 hrs / day from the battery bank. Battery bank is 2 x 150

Diving

Colona II is ideally equipped for small groups of up to 6 divers and would be perfect for a couple wanting to change their lifestyle and / or want to make a living from dive charters.

She carries 6 x 12L aluminium dive cylinders, dive weights and a Bauer Mariner Compressor. Custom made dive benches on the aft deck make for convenient donning and doffing of dive equipment and a strong dive ladder provide ease access.

She can legally run charters in Thailand and has a license for diving in Burma and can also include local agent booking agent if wanted.

Engine Room

The Ford six cylinder in line, 120 hp main engine was new in 1989 but was completely rebuilt in April 2019.

There are two generators on board, a shaft generator driven by the main engine which produces 11 kwh and a Perkins 4-108 15 kwh 3 phase generator. Both generators had compete overhauls in September 2015.

There is also an 100 amp starter battery, a powerful electric anchor winch with 30m of chain and 45kg anchor and also a 55kg anchor with 100m of 1.5 inch rope.

Colona II can accommodate up to 8 people and is fitted with a saloon, 2 x twin cabins in the front that share a bathroom at the front, a twin cabin aft of the saloon which shares a bathroom with the double 'owners' cabin in the stern.

There is also a fully equipped galley with a four burner propane stove and oven, a microwave, fridge and deep freezer

History

Current owner bought Colona II in 1977 and a full overhaul was made in the med:

  • 1977-1979 dive charter in the Red Sea with Sharm El Sheikh as a base
  • 1979-1981 Colona II sailed around the world and returned 1981
  • 1981-1982 dive charter in the Red Sea
  • 24 April 1982 the same day as the camp David agreement was in place Colona II hoisted her sails again. She transited the Red Sea, across Indian Ocean, cruised the Maldives for 2 months and then on to Sri Lanka for a complete refit.
  • 1983: late that year Colona II came back to the Red Sea to continue diving charter
  • 1983-1995: Colona II cruised the whole Red Sea including Sudan and other countries doing diving charters
  • 1995: Now Freddy Storheil decided that it was time to move on and Colona II moved to Thailand
  • 1995-2015 : Colona II was one the first diving boats to pioneer BURMA. During these years she sailed the waters of Burma and Thailand
  • 2015: Colona II sailed to Philippines where she lives today. Aug 2015 – Feb 2016 - refit
  • SY Colona II has long, varied and rich history in the diving industry with coverage in almost every diving magazine available
  • Colona II is laying in the Philippines today

Colona II can be delivered more or less anywhere according to agreement. With her current Thai registration she can legally charter in Thailand with up to 12 Passengers.

Dry Dock in Kudat / Borneo March To May 2019

Colona II went into dry drock on the 16th March 2019. A lot of work was carried out including regular below waterline cleaning, steel plate replacement, tar epoxy, anti fouling. and minor work to treat small areas of rust on the deck and hull

Whilst in dry dock Colona II received new paint to the sides and deck as well as a complete overhaul of the main engine including grinding the crankshaft and cylinder head, new valves, new bearings, new oil pump, honed the cylinders and new piston rings. All parts were sourced from EngineFix in the UK.
