The Mares Carbon 52X Regulator is a lightweight regulator that utilises a number of advanced technologies and materials to create a high performance regulator that can be use for any kind of diving.
The 52X first stage uses a balanced diaphragm design that delivers high flow rates regardless of depth or cylinder pressure. In addition to the performance that the valve design the 52X incorporates two Dynamic Flow ports that provide optimal flow to the second stages to minimise intermediate pressure drop for a seamless breathe. On the outside the first stage has a unique channel set into the main body that continuously draws water over the metal and act as a heat exchanger, transferring the cold generated by the first stage into the surrounding water and improve cold water performance.
The second stage housing is made from carbon, an advanced material that is more costly to use but is stronger than metal, lighter than plastic and offers improved thermal conduction over both metal and plastic making it a far superior material to use. The extremely lightweight housing makes the second stage very comfortable to use and reduces the weight on the jaw bone and muscles.
Mares don't use a balanced second stage valve as such, instead they use a unique design of a bypass tube that works in unison with an internal design that creates a vortex within the housing that improves air flow and valve response. The bypass tube then delivers air flow directly to the mouthpiece for improved performance.
The Carbon second stage also features a mesh grid over the diaphragm that helps to reduce the effect of flowing water impacting on the diaphragm, eliminating unexpected freeflows and valve flutter caused by strong currents.
The Mares Carbon 52X is fitted with a braided low pressure hose that offers significantly greater flexibility, burst pressure and UV resistance than traditional rubber hoses. Braided hoses are also lighter than rubber hoses which makes this regulator even lighter and more comfortable to use.
