FAQ Section:

What are divers watches?

Dive watches are one of the oldest forms of equipment used by scuba divers. They’re designed specifically to function in underwater environments and often have water resistant capabilities of up to 200 meters ( some have been designed to work 1000 meters underwater!). They’re also designed for durability and to be readable underwater and so often come with features that will enable that.

How does a divers watch work?

In many ways a Dive watch is the same as a regular watch. The mechanics of the watch are the same as any other watch but everything is designed to withstand operation underwater. The only difference is that most regular watches don’t come with a Bezel, which is standard on all dive watches.

How does a Bezel on a divers watch work?

Bezel’s are a simple rotating part of the dive watch that lets you track how long you’ve been underwater. By moving the bezel to mark the time you enter you can see exactly how long you’ve been underwater. Some bezels also come equipped with ways to measure the depth of the diver as well, but this is not a standard feature.

Is it better to get a Dive Watch or a Diving Computer?

While it may seem like an outdated piece of kit, a dive watch is still the most reliable way to track elapsed time in the event of a  dive computer failure. Most dive computers have a depth rating of at least around 50-150 meters but there are watches on the market that have been tested to 1000 meters! In reality that kind of depth would not be possible for a diver, but such robust testing certainly gives you faith in these hard wearing products. Being so affordable they are worth having as a backup and can be worn daily in any situation.

Dive computers are also a good investment though, and they make also make a fantastic everyday watch too. Choose from a stylish but straightforward small face computer or go all in for a smart dive computer that will link to your phone via Bluetooth. Why not look at the selection of our top wear-every-day dive computers from Suunto, Garmin and Shearwater to name just a few.
