Poseidon Xstream Deep straight Regulator

The only valve in the world rated to 200m

Poseidon's Xstream second stage has a well-proven construction with a number of newly developed characteristics. The inner volume, so called dead space, is small, which enables the build up of carbon dioxide to be minimized. At inhale and exhale the resistance is minimal, e.g. 0.07 Joule at inhalation at 150 metres (app. 495 feet) depth. The exhalation diaphragm is protected by a cover that can be removed without using tools for easy access to the diaphragm. The diaphragm’s position on the second stage also prevents flowing water from finding its way in to the valve.
As the name indicates, Xstream Deep is designed for those who dive deep with gas mixtures up to 21% oxygen. Depending on the area of usage and choice of configuration, the Deep first stage exists in two varieties; with the wheel mounted at the bottom or at the side (Deep 90). The colour marking of the first- and second stage is black (Trimix). The second stage is equipped with neck-straps as standard. The number of outlets is minimized to three for Deep 90 and two for Deep for maximum safety. The regulator is delivered with an LP-hose offered in a range of lengths to choose from.

Poseidon Xstream Deep straight Regulator
Author: scubasnack
'SMOOTH , COMFORTABLE , COMPACT AND REASSURING.'
Strengths: compact, comfort, ease of use, breathing performance delivering perfect quantities of air at any depth.
Weaknesses: Purge button could be more protected or recessed to avoid unintentional purges.
Overall: In the configuration displayed on the left above the Xsteam deep straight can be set up to a very hydrodynamic profile with no hoses outside of your body profile. The mouthpiece of the 2nd stage is very light and compact for such a high performing regulator, making you less susceptible to jaw ache. With the non keyed and side exhaust design, the 2nd stage can be fed from either side making it an ideal piece of kit for twin sets. With the purge button out of the way to the side there is little chance of accidental purging during any entry with your one hand securing mask and mouthpiece. During the descent and on the dive there is no perceptible difference in the amount of air being delivered. Maybe its due to the servo assisted 2nd stage but I have found that on the same wreck (Martha off Portland Bill 50M sea bed) and same profile with both the XTX 200 of Apexs and the X650 of Scubapro, that the amount of air with these two 'higher end products', can surge as you breathe, this can be unsettling on a darker dive. This high performance has the added benefit of improving air consumption as I felt less need to draw air but just to breathe naturally. The air delivery is so smooth that the regulator really can be forgotten about and the dive enjoyed! The 1st stage has Thermo dynamic anti freeze to prevent freezing and reduce the likely hood of freeflow. I understand that this system is similar in principal to many office air conditioning systems, that are able to extract heat from the atmosphere during winter months. However should a free flow occur, there is a safety valve built into the second stage that allows the user to continue using the valve while they assess the situation and if necessary ascend. With this level of quality and safety built in its no suprise that as well as CE and EN250 approval, this regulator has NORSOK endorsement. This is the Norwegian engineering standards agency that approve most of the North Sea installations and is recognised world wide. Being the only regulator currently on the market that is tested and approved to operate down to 200m does not mean this regulator is only for the tekkies. Were I starting again in my diving life, I would seriously consider this as an excellent regulator to give me a lifetime of reliable service. That I could develop my diving at any point would be a fringe benefit.
