Scubapro's Seawing Nova Fin cost an estimated $300000 in Research and development - the Seawing Nova fin has been designed to create the same kind of lift and forward thrust as an airplane wing. The blade is shaped like an air foil which creates lift as water moves with unequal pressure across the top and bottom of the blade.

The plastic blade is notched to flex at its pivotal point on both sides. As the diver swims, the blade's surface bends up and down. Vents underneath the blade open and close as the diver kicks. In the upward stroke, the vent closes to create more water pressure from the fin. As the foot moves downward, the flaps open to relieve pressure on the descending side.
